The Average Man’s Guide to Beginner Skin Care – Men’s Basic Skin Care

Most people believe that men prefer the minimalist approach when it comes to skin care. We don’t subscribe to that way of thinking. Men don’t need much to pamper their skin, but we recommend a few basics to protect your beautiful face. If you are having issues with shaving irritation, acne breakouts or simply showing signs of aging, here are a few tips you can use.

1. Cleanse (Daily)

Use a mild foaming cleanser twice a day. In the morning use it before you shave – it will help to reduce oil on the surface of your skin. Rinse with cool water as this will shrink the pores preventing new dirt and oil from immediately re-entering.

2. Exfoliate (1-2 times a week)

Depending on your skin type, use an exfoliating scrub 1-2 times a week (unless you have sensitive skin, if so you may want to skip this step). This will remove dead skin cells and brighten a dull complexion. Do not exfoliate more than 2 times a week as you run the risk of drying out your skin.

3. Serum After Shaving

An antioxidant serum is helpful to reduce damage and should go on in the morning underneath moisturizer .

4. Moisturize

Moisturize your skin with a face moisturizer by adding a dime sized amount to your entire face. Hydrating your face keeps it generally looking good, prevents aging and wrinkles, and prevents excess oil production.

If you’re worried about your forehead wrinkles and crows-feet around your eyes, a small amount of anti-aging cream can help smooth them out and tighten your skin. For even better results to repair and restore aging eyes, use an eye cream or eye mask, smoothing wrinkles around the eyes, and reducing bags and puffiness.

5. Protect Your Skin

If you plan to spend time in the sun make sure you apply an SPF30 or higher sunscreen for the face to protect the skin from sun damage.

When selecting products to use consider your skin type and take your ethnicity into consideration. Also, products are not gender specific so do not fall into that trap. You should be looking for products that address your specific needs regardless of the aisle that you might find them in.
